They can be useful, assuming it's a trust worthy service. Only downside is the passwords tend to be ones that are impossible to remember.

Avast's password generator supports up to 50 character passwords, and gives control over types of characters used.

Ritchey Web Password Generator supports custom length passwords, and you can download the password as a txt file. The online version isn't running anymore, but the code can still be downloaded. Just open the "index.html" file in a browser to use it. No internet required.
